Hello!
Welcome to a webpage full of information on the Emerald Ash Borer. 6th grade students at Pikes Peak School of Expeditionary Learning work throughout our expedition to gather information, and gain knowledge to create this amazing final product.

Overview of the Product
Hello,
The 6th Graders at Pikes Peak School of Expeditionary Learning worked hard throughout our expedition to examine resources, gain knowledge, and become experts on invasive species. On this website you will find their amazing final products. Please check out their hard work.
-Sincerely, Ms. Tiland
Learning Targets
I can create a PSA that will inform the community of Colorado Springs about an invasive species; specifically, the Emerald Ash Borer.
I can make connections between invasive species, ecosystems, food chains, and the role I play in the environment.
Explanation
Students worked collaboratively to create a PSA based on examples from the real world. They looked at an issue that will soon affect Colorado Springs, the Emerald Ash Borer, and wrote their own PSA. We incorporated technology into our final product, so that it would resemble what our students see when they step outside the classroom.
Throughout our expedition students worked to gain an understanding of invasive species, and how everything in our environment is connected. They wrote the background section of their PSA as they learned more about the topics. They added details based off non-fiction text, fieldwork, and expert speakers throughout the revising process. After doing multiple drafts they incorporated the technology into their final draft.
Standards
Life Science.1: Changes in environmental conditions can affect the survival of individual organisms, populations, and entire species.
b.Develop, communicate, and justify an evidence-based explanation about how ecosystems interact with and impact the global environment (DOK 1-3)
c. Model equilibrium in an ecosystem, including basic inputs and outputs, to predict how a change to that ecosystem such as climate change might impact the organisms, populations, and species within it such as the removal of a top predator or introduction of a new species
We also used many different reading comprehension strategies and standards along the way to collect our information.
