Background Information

The food chain is a way to show how animals interact. Like on a pyramid, the organisms in the first layer are called primary producers. They get they energy from the sun. The primary producers are eaten by the 2nd consumers, who are then eaten by the tertiary consumers. Next, the primary producers are like the building blocks of the pyramid. The primary producer needs to have the most because if it did not it would fall apart. An example of the food chain is when the sun feeds an ash tree, then an ash bored beetle eats it, then a wasp eats the (EAB).

The physical description of the (EAB) is it has big black eyes and is green on the top. Next, the (EAB) originated from eastern Asia. Last, its place in the food chain is primary consumer. The (EAB) larva eats the cambium and the phloem of the tree. The (EAB)eat larva as an adult. Some stuff that eats the (EAB) is the woodpecker, wasps that are native to Asia.

Impact of EAB

The “Emerald Ash Borer” or EAB would affect our ecosystem, which would affect the trees. Knowing this, the EAB is an issue. When the EAB lays its eggs, the egg hatches eating the tree the part of the tree it eats is the phloem and cambium. This kills the tree. It would only take one invasive species to impact an ecosystem. Like when the kudzu vine from japan was moved to America for decoration. Last, the EAB could affect our urban Ash tree population when it lays its eggs. Its eggs will hatch and then the eggs eat the tree. And the beetle boom is like this because when the snow storm happened it blow down trees making the beetle population increase.

Action steps

Step 1: If the diameter is under 15 inches you can spray the tree with insecticides yourself.

Step 2: If the diameter is over 15 inches call a professional

Adaptation is shown in many places and was like as in the EAB by sense the EAB is green so the

EAB can blend in with leaves.
