Background Information

A food chain is a list of how predator and prey interact. A part of the food chain that thrives the most is the primary producers. The tertiary consumer has no natural predators. Decomposers are important because decomposer eat all of the dead carcasses. Also, the predators eat their control the population. Energy flows from producers to the tertiary consumers. Also, if one species dies then the entire food chain is affected.

Invasive species are non-native, plant/native, dose not cause any harm, usually moved/caused by humans. Invasive species can kill an entire environment also they block out food sources for animals, by affecting the food chain. Animals need plants so that they can breathe, they also need because plants are their food source. So that they can have carbonnade. Plants also need nutrients in the soil.

The Emerald Ash Borer is a dangerous invasive species that infects and kills the environment.  The EAB loves to eat ash trees which is a problem. They are able to reproduce quickly. They can fly large distances to find new trees. They are a large growing threat and we need to stop them from heading to Colorado Springs

An Ecosystem is a group interconnected plants animals and elements in a biome. The overall biome in Colorado is a forest and mountains. Manny animals and plants home are mountains and forest. Some animals are Cougars, Bob Cats, Elk, Deer, Moose, Bears, Birds, and Raccoons. Some existing plants are Pine Trees, Blue Spruce, Poison Ivy, and Shrub.

Impact of Emerald Ash Borer

The Emerald Ash Borer beetle is a consumer on the food chain because they are animals that eat trees. They have one predator and that is the wood pecker and they only feed on the larva. They reproduce quicker than humans and the larva are the ones that kill the ash trees. The Emerald Ash Borer lays the egg inside of the Ash tree and the larva digs its way out and then the wood pecker comes and eat it, that is why the larva and the Adult Emerald Ash Borer is a treat to the environment.

Action Plan

Step 1: Measure the diameter of the ash tree.

Step 2: treat trees themselves if the tree is less than 15 inches in diameter.

Step 3: Dead ash trees need to be cut down or removed unless important to the owner.

Step 4: They are worth saving if important to the owner or landscape. If healthy and more than 15in in diameter then hire a professional to do an insecticide.

The emerald ash borer has adapted over time in many different ways. They have learned how to blend in and camouflage with leaves and trees. Also, they have developed to take over different ash trees at one time. They have always been a threat to society and we need to stop them and act against them.
