Food Chain Changes

The Emerald Ash Borer is a little green bug. It has giant eyes and its six legs. It’s a primary consumer in the food chain. The E.A.B.’s larva eats and blocks the flow of nutrients for the tree. The E.A.B. is smaller than a penny. E.A.B. larva only eats Ash trees. We are slowly losing all the Ash trees because of them.

The E.A.B can affect the environment. It is an invasive species. An invasive species is an animal from another environment usually brought by humans. If the ash trees all die, the animals who only feed or live on the ash trees could die. Then the entire environment could die.

Impact of the Emerald Ash Borer

An invasive species could impact an ecosystem in a negative way. If an animal only eats one food source and another animal/plant kill that food source the animal who relies on that food source will die. Then the animals/plants who feed on them as their food source will die. Then son every animal/plant could be affected. This is happening in and around Denver with the ash trees. The Emerald Ash Borer could soon kill all the Ash trees.

Action Plan

Step 1: If you have an Ash tree, check if it has half of it leaves or has a D shaped hole in its trunk. If it does its infected with E.A.B.

Step 2: Spray your healthy/ important trees with the repellent so the E.A.B. will not infect your tree.

Step 3: You should not move/ carry lumber a significant distance without checking it for E.A.B.

Step 4: Do not make transport crates without checking it for E.A.B.

Natural Selection and Adaptation

The E.A.B could adapt from the E.A.B. repellent spray if it is sprayed on the Ash tree too much
